Student Life Mission Camp
Student Life Mission Camps are a Christ-centered camp for 7th-12th
graders. It includes engaging worship from experienced worship leaders,
learning through sound biblical teaching and Bible study, community in Family
Groups, and mission projects in the local communities. It's a week of focused
learning, heartfelt praise, dramas, community building, teamwork, and most
importantly, God's Word on center stage. At Mission Camp, we will assign your
church to a work site for the day. After Celebration, Student Life sends sack
lunches with your group as you leave for your work site. Possible assignments
could include repairing homes or teaching Bible stories to children. At Camp,
students will participate in Recreation, lunch, and Family Group Bible Study
all on campus. What is a Family Group?
A Family Group is about 8 to 10 students coming together under the leadership of an adult leader (from your church) and a student leader (from your church). A Family Group's purpose is to learn about God through missions, Bible study and times of prayer. Students are grouped according to their ages. A Junior Family Group has students from 7th to 9th grade. A Senior Family Group has students from 10th to 12th grade and recent graduates.
What are the goals of Student Life events?
We have numerous goals for our events, but ultimately, our goals involve life change happening in students, adults and us. In Scripture, every time someone spent time with Jesus, he or she went away changed. We hope each person leaves this experience changed. Not because of technical effects, entertaining dramas or even meeting new people, but because we have been with Jesus.
Camp Location: Shocco Springs Baptist Conference CenterJust a few minutes from Talladega, Alabama, lies 783 acres of land. It is a place of refuge from today’s society; a quiet, peaceful place for learning more about God and training to serve Him, while surrounded by His creation.
Groups choose Shocco as their meeting place for leadership training,
spiritual growth, evangelism and fellowship. When not attending conferences or
worship services, guests enjoy a variety of activities. The lake provides not
only beautiful scenery, but opportunities for paddle boating and fishing.
Swimming in the pool and splashing in Shocco’s aqua park are popular options in
the summer. The recreation area surrounding the lake includes miniature golf,
horseshoes, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, playing fields, paintball,
bazooka ball and pedal cars. The Ricker Activities Center provides an indoor
climbing wall and a versatile gymnasium/meeting area. Other recreational
opportunities include leisurely walks around campus and hiking along two
walking trails.Camp Pastor: Chad Poe
For years, Chad has been speaking biblical truth into students' lives.
Chad preaches God's Word through story telling, media, and visual experience.
As someone not simply called to speak, Chad believes in the importance of
relationship and seeks to get to know students when he is away from the stage.
Ultimately, Chad hopes to see students moved into a deeper relationship with
Christ. In turn, those students will live lives of action that impact their
community and world.
Camp Music Leaders: Rush of FoolsLyrically engaging and musically inventive, the Rush Of Fools Sound is being tagged by some as “progressive worship.” Though they are young, they aren't the least bit hesitant to be bold about their faith. "People want to know the truth. Reality TV is the biggest thing right now," says Huguley. "Everyone wants to know what's real and what's real is that we are tainted. For far too long now, Christians have been scared to say that because we've got to put on our armor and look great in front of everybody. It just doesn't work because it's not real and honest. Our message is to tell the truth."
